The Super Sparrow ceramics are a range of tableware and other objects for the home. The range is designed to have a relaxed, organic feel with a minimal-inspired aesthetic and each piece is hand made and glazed in the studio in Deptford, London.
Lilly Mandarano, the designer-maker behind The Super Sparrow ceramics has a Fine Art Hons Degree from Central Saint Martins in London and she is essentially self-taught in ceramics after completing a short evening course in hand-building after which she continued to experiment and hone her craft in her studio. Shortly after sharing her work on social media, Lilly was approached by two independent shops wanting to stock her work and The Super Sparrow ceramics was born. The range has a carefully selected colour palette which is complimentary and can be mix and matched. Each object is thoughtfully designed to be aesthetically pleasing but ultimately very functional and comfortable to use. Inspiration for the range is drawn from stones and other natural forms. As clay has a memory, pieces retain and tell their story through makers marks and their organic shapes.
A selection of The Super Sparrow tableware was used extensively in Michel Roux Jr’s latest cookbook, The French Revolution. There are many images which feature plates, bowls and milk jugs from the range. Plans for workshops and classes in the studio have currently been put on hold due to the current situation, but will be offered as soon as it is safe to do so and will be held in the studio in small numbers to ensure plenty of individual time and attention. Private sessions are also available.
