If you attend nothing else this year, get yourself along to Matthew Bourne’s Swan Lake
From curtain up to curtain down this spellbinding show will delight and for the uninitiated in the ways of Sir Matthew, leave you feeling that you have missed out thus far. Dominic North as the Prince and Will Bozier as the Swan in the performance that we saw led us through a gamut of emotions until the end of the show with its crescendo of music and dance and the achingly beautiful relationship between both. I shed more than one tear.
Having seen the show some fifteen years ago at Sadlers Wells, there have been some subtle changes but the menace of the all male swans, the hauteur of the Queen and the gentle touching performance of the Prince are still as they ever were. With costumes and sets by the incomparable Lez Brotherston you will be swept along on a tide of Tchaikovsky with a touch of kitsch and a brilliant modern take on a classic ballet. See it, enjoy it and maybe even see it again.
